Hi friends.

The night of May 31st is a Friday. Sure, you could go for drinks, eat out, or Netflix and chill. But how about contemplating your inevitable death instead? Hmmmmm???

If you’re intrigued, come to Friday Night Death Yoga, an immersive yoga and meditation experience centered on the theme of death.

If that sounds like the worst idea ever, I get it. It’s DEATH. It’s famous for being terrifying and morbid. But that’s mostly when you’re peeking from the rear view mirror. I think you’ll find that if you turn towards death, and really observe, it starts to look like a friend.

Hear me out.

You’ve probably heard stories of people who have a close brush with death and it transforms their lives for the better. They were almost killed, but weren’t. They’re ALIVE! They can move, laugh, listen to music, give a hug, or watch the birdies fly through the sky. And it suddenly feels so miraculous.

Of course, life was miraculous all along. The closeness of death just helped them see it.

I had a similar awakening after my own brush with death. For me, it wasn’t a car crash or accident. It was that I watched my husband die of cancer. He was my peer, my lover, and the father of our young children. He was only 38. It was devastating and shocking. It totally shook loose my belief that I was guaranteed more time to be alive. I hadn’t even realized I had the belief before, but seeing him die made me realize that of course I will die, too, and it could happen at any time. And that awareness of death has offered me more presence and perspective than anything else. It helps me feel my aliveness and appreciate each moment I have in this mortal body of mine.

But you don’t have to wait for a near death experience to offer yourself that perspective. You can make the choice to sit with death at any time. One excellent option (if I do say so myself) will be Friday Night Death Yoga 5/31 at 6:30pm , where you can pair transformational death meditations with beautiful, guided yoga led by the wonderful and enchanting Jenna of Embodied Spirit Yoga.

I hope to see you there. But even if you decide to Netflix and chill, I invite you to appreciate that you’re alive while you’re doing it. Hope you savor all your chills, and everything else you've got coming up.

With love,

Emma
