Service Description

Plants & Dance, regularly accompanied by local Denver-based musicians, is a contemporary movement practice drawing inspiration from the fluidity, strength, and unique growth patterns of plants. Sophia Eliana invites dancers to embody the intricacies of plants during improvisational scores and choreographic instruction. Excerpts from plant-related poetry and horticulture studies are woven into Plants & Dance to supplement body and plant explorations. This dynamic class incorporates floor-work, improvisation, mindful body-alignment, and strength-training through the lens of modern, contemporary, and jazz technique-based routines. Open to all bodies, genders, and dance backgrounds! Beg./Int Sophia Eliana, Denver-based folk musician and movement artist, immersed herself in a diverse range of dance disciplines starting from the early age of three years old. Sophia has studied contemporary, improvisation, Afro-Latin-Jazz, pom, hip-hop, studio jazz, ballet, acrobatics, modern, capoeira, and street dance, learning from instructors Dianne Lyle, Tatum May, Maryann DeAngelis, Laurel Weingand, Clara Barbera, Cameron McKinney, and Dani Robbins. Sophia Eliana’s teaching background began as a dance assistant for Dianne Lyle's Afro-Latin-Jazz classes in Pacific Grove, California. Her dedication extended to teaching contemporary-jazz fusion to students aged 6-16 and adult burlesque-jazz at Next Generation Dance Alliance in Ellsworth, Maine. Additionally, she served as a guest instructor for Dani Robbins' contemporary technique class at College of the Atlantic. Cultivating spaces of patience, empowerment, and inclusivity form the core of Sophia Eliana’s teaching philosophy. Sophia Eliana's performance career highlights include her time as a dance soloist in Berklee a Les Arts: A propósito de Elektra in Valencia, Spain, directed by Magdalini Giannikou and Clara Barbera and collaborations with Dani Robbins in dance-theatre work, "PLAYFIGHT." Sophia Eliana has had the pleasure of performing Dani Robbins' company works at various venues, including Engine Biddeford, PortFringe in Portland, ME, NACHMO in Boston, MA, and the Reykjavík Fringe Festival in Reykjavík, Iceland.
